Knowledge Musona will likely not play again this year as Kaizer Chiefs officials on Monday updated his medical condition and confirmed the severity of the injury suffered by their star striker.
He will only make his comeback in January, officials have told supersport.com, as he recovers from a broken shoulder bone, although there are hopes his recovery might prove quicker.
It happened in an awkward fall as he scored a goal for the club last month against Free State Stars in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinal.
Musona dove to head home the ball but fell hard as he did not cushion his fall.
The medical prognosis is that he will not return before the December break.
The Zimbabwe international is likely to be severely missed, having already had to sit out the derby against Orlando Pirates two weekends ago.
The 22-year-old had shown a renewed appetite since returning to the Premier Soccer League after two seasons in the German Bundesliga. He is on loan for the rest of the season, this is a major setback for Amakhosi as they want to reclaim the league honours once again this season, they will sorely miss his goalscoring touch.
Musona’s absence is exacerbated by the ugly derision that Chiefs fans have been piling on his Zimbabwean counterpart Kingstone Nkhatha, who has replaced Musona in the line-up.
