Today the inevitable has been confirmed after months of speculation about the future of Gordon Igesund as Bafana Bafana coach.
SAFA informed Bafana Bafana head coach, Gordon Igesund, that his contract will not be
renewed. This was confirmed by SAFA President, Danny Jordaan, at a press conference today.
“We will not renew Gordon Igesund’s contract. We will look for a replacement coach,” Jordaan told the conference.
“The process for finding a new coach will start immediately after this press conference,” added
Igesund’s reign with Bafana was never rosey as the 3 time PSL champion failed to reach the AFCON semi finals on home soil. Failure to qualify for the world cup did not make him any favors although he did not start the campaign as the head coach.
The final straw for Igesund was when Bafana Bafana failed to win the 2014 Chan tournament
which South Africa hosted.
A couple of high profile names have been thrown into the hat for the head coach post including former Bafana boss and Portuguese mentor, Carlos Queiroz and Nigerian Coach Stephen Keshi.
