Kaizer Chiefs went into this game as the underdogs, although they had not conceded a single goal in the run to the final. The loss of Itumeleng Khune to injury was considered the deciding factor, with bookmakers citing Orlando Pirates as favorites.
The game did not go according to script though, as Amakhosi grapped the game on its and pushed for an opener. It eventually came through a set piece, as Tefo Mashamaite headed home from a superb free-kick by George Lebese. Chiefs held on to their lead as Brilliant Khuzwayo stopped everything that came his way, winning the man of the match award in the process.
