The Argentina-born star passed away in a Madrid hospital on Monday, two days after suffering a heart attack. Di Stefano had been in a coma since suffering a heart attack on Saturday.
Born in 1926, Di Stefano was a key member of the Real Madrid side that dominated Spanish and European football during the 1950s and early 1960s.
He spent the final two days of his life in the intensive care unit of the Gregorio Maranon hospital where he was kept in an induced coma.
Real Madrid announced that honorary president Alfredo di Stefano died at 17:15 (GMT).
A Real Madrid statement reads: “President Florentino Perez, and the club’s executive committee, would like to express their most sincere condolences, love and support for his children, family members and friends.”
