SuperSport United head coach Stuart Baxter is set to be unveiled as the new head coach for the South African senior national team, Bafana Bafana.

Various reports emerged on Thursday morning that Baxter had put pen to paper with the South African Football Association (Safa) to fill the the vacancy left by Shakes Mashaba in December 2016.

The former was shown the exit door by SAFA after being found guilty of gross misconduct and insubordination among other charges.

According to Safa’s head of communications Dominic Chimhavi, the deal has been concluded and the official announcement will be made soon to the public.

“We’ve finalised everything and pen has been put to paper. The announcement could be tomorrow or anytime from now. It’s just a matter of calling you guys [the media] to the official announcement,” Chimhavi told Sowetan.

Ruud Krol has emerged as the man identified to replace the Englishman, however the former Orlando Pirates tactician would only be in charge of the team at the start of next season after the club made it clear that they will hold on to their head coach for the remainder of the current campaign.

#TBT : France vs South Africa 1998 WC

Little was known of France’s star players such as Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane, especially from African viewers such as myself. Being a young boy I anticipated the first world cup game South Africa participated in with huge excitement hoping that South Africa will show the world what we are made of, however Zinedine Zidane and co. had other ideas as they went on a complete rampage against Bafana Bafana.

The game ended with 3-0 to the host with Pierre Issa being the scapegoat for the own goal and terrible defending. The French went on to become World Champions, while South AFrica drew the rest of the group games managing to score three goals in total.
