Barcelona and their supporters face punishment after they were reported on Tuesday for repeated derogatory chants against Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo during Sunday’s 5-0 win over Levante at Camp Nou.

According to a report compiled by Spain’s Professional Football League authority (LFP), supporters in the south stand at Camp Nou repeatedly chanted “He is a drunk, Cristiano is a drunk!” in the 65th minute of the game, in reference to the Portuguese’s controversial celebration of his 30th birthday the previous Saturday in Madrid.

“A group of approximately 200 people identified with scarves, banners and flags from supporters’ groups of the local club and in particular, the group known as ALMOGAVERS, located behind the banner identifying that group, started singing the following song: “He is a drunk, Cristiano is a drunk!,” the LFP revealed in a statement on their website, adding that the chant was carried out “repeatedly” and “exclusively” by those fans while others were well-behaved.

The details of the report, which also cites abusive chanting in the Sevilla-Cordoba and Albacete-Betis clashes, have been passed on to Anti-violence and Competition Committees, which could choose to fine both Barca and the fans in question for their behaviour on Sunday.

Ronaldo has long insisted he does not drink alcohol, but was pictured looking worse for wear at his birthday party on February 7, just hours after Madrid had lost 4-0 to Atletico in a disappointing derby defeat at the Vicente Calderon.

Report : Gunners accept bid from Barcelona for Vermaelen

By Daniel Chokoe

Arsenal have reportedly agreed a fee of around £15m with FC Barcelona for the sale of captain
Thomas Vermaelen.

The 28-year-old had also been linked with Manchester United, but Arsene Wenger confirmed he does not want to sell Vermaelen to a direct rival.

Vermaelen is now set to join Barcelona but still has to agree personal terms and pass his medical in the coming days, BBC reports.

The Belgium international is Barcelona’s second centre-back signing after they already bought
Jeremy Mathieu from Valencia for £16m.

The move to Barcelona is likely to be completed this weekend, ending Vermaelen’s five-year stay
in London.

Another masterpiece from Wenger, he managed to sell a bench warmer for £15 million and in the process ensured that he doesn’t join a direct rival team.

Arsenal have been given the green light to complete their move for Alexis Sanchez after Barcelona reportedly accepted a £32 million
bid for the Chilean.

The Gunners have been trying to push through a deal for the 25-year-old for the past two months, but have now seemingly settled on a payment plan for the in-demand striker.

According to Goal.com, Arsenal will hold further talks with Sanchez’s people in the next 48 hours ahead of wrapping up a deal.

However, any formal announcement is likely to be
delayed until Barca can complete their own move for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.

The Reds hoped to include Sanchez in any deal for Suarez, but the player is favouring a move to the Emirates, with his agent recently following the club
and some of their stars on Twitter.

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi returns to training

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi returned to training on Monday after overcoming a thigh injury.

The 26-year-old has missed his side’s last two games as a result of the muscle strain he sustained against Almeria last month.

Even though Messi trained on Monday there is no guarantee that he will feature in Saturday’s trip to Osasuna.

Barcelona’s next fixtures after Saturday is against AC Milan in Europe and the first Clasico of 2013-14.

In other good news for the club is that Carles Puyol also trained as he continues his rehabilitation from a knee injury that has sidelined him since March.
